🌝 Full Moon in Aries ♈️: Sacred Selfishness
Dare to risk disappointing others to make choices that honor you.
As we come up on a full moon in Aries early Friday morning, I’m reminded how hard it is to change.
After a recent argument with my mom, I found myself in an intellectual scramble to find common ground. But I couldn’t, because I’d lost track of my own opinion.
When we’re kids, we adopt the worldview of our parents, and then slowly replace it with our own as we grow up. Sometimes, this can feel like it’s us against the world.
We gravitate back to what’s familiar. It feels safe, but is it? Or are we just associating the concept of safety with our primary caregiver?
Aries represents the pioneer, the warrior, and the leader. Aries has a reputation for being instinct-driven, quick to argue, and prone to fight. This sign is about courage and survival.
On a full moon, these concepts are at high energy and on full display.
The moon and the sun, both opposite each other at 6 degrees, are not making any aspects to any other planet. Notice how there’s just a single red line connecting the two.
The main theme of this moon, then, is about the polarity between Aries and Libra. It’s often summarized as “me vs. we.” It’s too simplistic to say that the Libra side is better for erring towards harmony and peace. Libra can also be codependent and superficial. We don’t have real peace if every person hasn’t spoken up for themself.
That brings me to the title of this newsletter: Sacred Selfishness.
This full moon is a time to reclaim the positive side of being selfish. We can’t really be in relationship with others if we aren’t honest about our desires and needs.
Let’s go one step deeper. Every sign has a ruling planet, and Aries is ruled by Mars.
Mars is currently in Libra (!!).
Mars is also conjunct the South Node, which represents karma, shadow, and unconscious programming. To put it in more psychological terms, it’s the habit patterns or beliefs we picked up, from our parents or society, that determine our choices without us realizing it.
So right now our agency (Mars) is pushing for harmony (Libra) but is about to encounter this sensitive point of rotten old limitations.
With a full moon illuminating our feelings, we might see some of the old habits or patterns we’ve worked so hard to break come to the surface. When old patterns resurface, it doesn’t mean we’re “back there” again, just that we’re letting go on a new level. That brings us closer to true freedom.
Consider an area of life where you need to pick the choice that makes you happy, at the risk of disappointing others. Make a list of what these other people’s opinions might be, and then, what yours are. See if writing it on paper brings some extra confidence that your preference for yourself is valid.

The next new moon, on Oct. 14, will be a Libra Solar Eclipse.

I’ve been using the To Be Magnetic (TBM) workshops for a year now, and they help me make choices more confidently and understand how I was able to get so many “answered prayers” when I was an evangelical Christian.
